EMEKE BUITELAAR

Emeke Buitelaar (1958) is a creating artist. She is fascinated by several cultures and their customs.

The themes in her paintings are very often meetings incorporating a message or a story. Her exuberant way of using colours became stronger after her stay in Suriname. Nowadays she is working on the thema ‘base’. She intends to go to Suriname where her mother was born, in order to make paintings about the base of her mother. She was working with Anton Heyboer which gave her a much more insight and new experiences.  Their bound was courage and originality.

She gave workshops in Japan during one month and she also made some paintings there. During her stay there a world opened up.

Emeke was nominated for ‘Artist of the year in 2003. On the list she was mentioned together with Appel and Corneille .

She also got an Indian-name: Ala wa sta we chez’’, which means she who travels the good road’’.

Where I am going, is my brush; painting gives colour to my life, so that I can convey it.
