BART KOK

Bart Kok (1974) was born and raised in the east part of the Netherlands. Although he has a science degree and many years of work experience in the world of molecular biology research, he has always had a strong creative drive as well. When Bart moved to Amsterdam, he got more intensively involved in painting, which for him is the absolute best way to express himself creatively. Nowadays he lives in Spain for a large part of the year.

Bart is autodidactic. Initially he painted mainly still lives and landscapes, partly inspired by his own travels around the world. Over the years he has continued to develop himself further, also by completing various drawing and painting courses as well as painting under professional guidance. As a result, his interest shifted towards figurative art. Nowadays Bart likes to paint people in an environment that evokes emotions and/or questions. The subjects are very diverse and he creates what triggers him in the moment. Sometimes he finds a subject so intriguing that he turns it into a small series.

In compiling an image, Bart uses various photographs that he collects from his own work, from the Internet and from magazines. He then digitally edits these images using Photoshop and/or he makes a collage out of them. He takes plenty of time for this intuitive process. In this way he creates his own unique image, to then capture that on canvas.

One of the most striking features of Bart’s work is the powerful use of color. He has developed a clear personal style.
